Some Of(f) These Commercials Are Just Painful To Watch

It’s like a train wreck. You know you shouldn’t be watching it, but it’s so bad you can’t take your eyes away…at least that’s what it felt like watching the new “Off PowerPad” commercial trying to drum up traffic for their website.

Here - I’ll help them out since their commercial probably won’t do the job…www.offpowerpad.com

First rule of thumb, when you write a script for a commercial, make it believable. But then again, I always sound stiff and use precision enunciation when I’m having a casual conversation with a friend or acquaintance (in case you didn’t catch it, that sentence was supposed to be dripping with sarcasm).

If you don’t want to invest in a good script, at least hire some above average actors who can take that bad script, turn it into a work of art, and make us believe it…

I so wish I could filter crappy ass commercials from future viewing…

Sweet & Low Playing Off Emotions

I just finished watching a new Sweet & Low commercial featuring none other than the Pink Panther himself. Listening to the cute Pink Panther theme song brought me back to my childhood. I loved the Pink Panther. The theme song was one of my solos in grade school - I still have the sheet music.

When I first saw the commercial, I certainly didn’t expect it to end up being Sweet & Low, when the Pink Panther ran out of pink then started to take a sip from a steamy cup, I thought this was a stunt pulled by Starbucks — but I was quite surprised to find otherwise.

I’m still debating whether or not this commercial worked on me because I’m still not a huge fan of Sweet & Low (I’ve always been a Nutrasweet girl myself), but it did get me thinking.

I have to admit it though - they were smart, they played off the emotion and if their target audience is the people who grew up watching Pink Panther (and falling in love with him), then I’m sure this ad will have paid off.

I’m still in limbo on it though — I’ll need to see it about…eh…7 more times before I can be sure.

I Want To Be A Kid In A Candy Store

I have to commend Mastercard. Their most recent commercial has got to be one of the best commercials I’ve seen in a long time.

I know they’re most known for their “priceless” commercials, and this one follows along the same lines, however, it’s executed in such a wonderfully elaborate way.

They don’t give it all away in the beginning of the commercial, but the snow globes labeled “vacations” made me wonder what was going on a little bit. The turning point that made me sit up and take notice was the “miniature” plane landing on what seemed to be a store counter.

Then the clincher - miniature wild animals running through a miniature African plain. I was definitely left wanting to be a kid in a candy store after watching that commercial.

Whoever thunk it up and executed it should get an award or something. It’s rare you see a commercial that good anymore.

(yes, I even believe they redeemed themselves after than whole green man board game fiasco)

Colgate, I Have Lost All Respect For You

Colgate Dragon That red dragon minty fresh cinnamon scary crap is not working for you. What in the world were you thinking? I know that my hard earned dollars that I spend weekly on your toothpaste can be put to far better use.

Just for thinking you could get away with broadcasting that assinine commercial to the world, I’m switching to Crest and don’t even try to talk me out of it. Yank that piece of shit you call a commercial, revise it, revamp it, re-do whatever the hell you have to in order to make it less crappy, then we can talk.

In the meanwhile, fire your advertising agency — if you did it in house, hire an advertising agency — quick.

Hey Kids - Eat Starburst, You Will Be A Better Psycho Stalker For It

This has to be the best damn commercial in the world! Every time I see it I break down laughing. So what is this amazingly wonderfully funny commercial?

Starburst Girl The Starburst commercial with the art kid who made the sculpture of “Sharon” which he then shows to her and begins to eat in her presence - that kid just makes the whole psycho-ness of it completely believable.

It’s really funny in a creepy way. They have a couple others that I think are pretty cool, but that one definitely takes the cake.
