Holding It Down On The Engineering Tip…Yaaooooo

I love the bad German accent. I love the “unpimping” of the ride. I probably won’t ever buy an unpimped VW, but I just love these commercials.

Seen all of them at least ten times and I still can’t stop laughing at it, there is just something oddly entrancing about it - especially that spindly blonde model and how she says “it is definitely sucking…”.

Good job VW. Way to be innovative, yaaooo.

VW - Umpimp My Ride In case you haven’t seen it yet (have you been living in a cave?)

(And for the dude who said they should have used “real” German actors…um, VW knew what they were doing.

We may not live in Germany, but we know a bad German accent when we hear one and that mad scientist freaky accent is what helps to give these commercials their “something special”.

Xzibit, if you’re reading this - call me. I have a ride I need pimped, pleeeeaaaase.)

More Erectile Disfunction Commercials?

Oh yea, because Viagra is exactly what you need when you’re tapping on death’s door like a girl scout selling cookies…

Side Effects Are Overrated

I love how these commercials for pharmaceutical products actually make the side effects of their drugs seem exciting and fun.

“There is an increased chance of burning, chafing, redness, spontaneous combustion, irritation, blindness, itchiness, immaculate conception, drowsiness, spontaneous limb growth, or severe rigor mortis when using this medication. Do not operate heavy machinery or take this medication while breathing.”

Some Of(f) These Commercials Are Just Painful To Watch

It’s like a train wreck. You know you shouldn’t be watching it, but it’s so bad you can’t take your eyes away…at least that’s what it felt like watching the new “Off PowerPad” commercial trying to drum up traffic for their website.

Here - I’ll help them out since their commercial probably won’t do the job…www.offpowerpad.com

First rule of thumb, when you write a script for a commercial, make it believable. But then again, I always sound stiff and use precision enunciation when I’m having a casual conversation with a friend or acquaintance (in case you didn’t catch it, that sentence was supposed to be dripping with sarcasm).

If you don’t want to invest in a good script, at least hire some above average actors who can take that bad script, turn it into a work of art, and make us believe it…

I so wish I could filter crappy ass commercials from future viewing…

Sweet & Low Playing Off Emotions

I just finished watching a new Sweet & Low commercial featuring none other than the Pink Panther himself. Listening to the cute Pink Panther theme song brought me back to my childhood. I loved the Pink Panther. The theme song was one of my solos in grade school - I still have the sheet music.

When I first saw the commercial, I certainly didn’t expect it to end up being Sweet & Low, when the Pink Panther ran out of pink then started to take a sip from a steamy cup, I thought this was a stunt pulled by Starbucks — but I was quite surprised to find otherwise.

I’m still debating whether or not this commercial worked on me because I’m still not a huge fan of Sweet & Low (I’ve always been a Nutrasweet girl myself), but it did get me thinking.

I have to admit it though - they were smart, they played off the emotion and if their target audience is the people who grew up watching Pink Panther (and falling in love with him), then I’m sure this ad will have paid off.

I’m still in limbo on it though — I’ll need to see it about…eh…7 more times before I can be sure.
